Research has documented phonological awareness is an important skill that good readers possess and is lacking in struggling readers. These cards engage students in the phonological task of rhyming. They help students form rhyming groups of words while using a routine that aids in their ability to confirm or reject that a chosen word rhymes with the target word. This activity is aligned to the Common Core Reading Foundational Skill: Phonological Awareness. The cards may be used with partners or as a teacher-led activity with a group of students.
